Surprisingly Good Service.

I had to send an urgent parcel to Lincoln today and wanted it to be there by Christmas. I phoned around but wasn’t getting much joy. I don’t send many parcels and so don’t have an account with any of the carriers. So I was offered the opportunity to open an account or high charges. The only option was Parcelforce which was reasonable but then I came across a company in Tunbridge Wells, Kent who offer “Next Day Delivery at £7.99 plus VAT. It took a few minutes to give the inbformation by phone and I received an e-mail within minutes with the notes to stick on the parcel. That was at 10.30 this morning. The parcel was collected at lunch-time by United Parcel Service so I’m hoping it’ll be there tomorrow.

Marketing Basics remind you that “call forwarding” means you can always keep in touch with customers even when your office is closed.

“Call forwarding ” costs around £2 a month and gives you freedom. options include being able to divert all calls to another phone, maybe your home number or your mobile. Another option is to divert calls when your number is engaged and another is if you don’t answer within a set number of rings then it is diverted. There are other options but these three will give you freedom and control.

Sometimes we do need to be available to customers 365 days a year but is that call really urgent? You could put your office voice-mail on and include “Please leave a message but if it is really urgent call our mobile which is  . . . . . “.

There are alternatives such as a bureau (if you choose one open 247) or a message pager bureau that will be open 247 and 365 days a year and is the most economic solution at around 72p per day. For details go to www.ace-answering.co.uk

Get a Newsletter up and Running NOW

Christmas Eve tomorrow and a few days break, the family together and a great time for all. I wish you all a really happy, relaxing and peaceful Christmas and a healthy, active and successful New Year.

So lets quickly think about the New Year. Marketing Basics are getting ready for the first 2 hour Unlock the Secrets Sales & Marketing seminar on 13th January at 56 Walter Road, Swansea.   • use html or plain text – or send html and if their system doesn’t allow that then they’ll receive plain text
  • You can personalise each newsletter.

Once sent the system tells you:

  • who has opened their newsletter
  • which have not been delivered
  • who has clicked on a link, and which one
  • plus much, much more

Sad me! It’s 10 o’clock Friday night and I’m writing about work. But I can’t emphasis enough the importance of my seminar that’ll be running on 13th and 23rd January. I missed posting any videos up at the end of 2008 so here’s a couple to make up. Both from my Recession Buster 10 Top Tips series. The first is hints about your website. Do you have a website? If not think about one now. We know that more and more people are turning to the internet to look up local businesses (see “thebestof ” sites as an example) either to find a service or check out the business. If they are checking you out you’d better have a good website there.
